I have
experience
in consulting with different groups and have made many
presentations and
given workshops on a wide range of topics.
Principles
of Consultation and Training
Nature of the problem to be solved. Consultation
begins when an
organization believes that they need an outsider’s perspective in
order to move ahead in solving a problem.
They define the desired outcomes so as a consultant I can work with
them to find solutions that fit their context and needs.
Nature of the consultation/training
relationship: The nature of the relationship is one of shared
skills. I bring specific content, and a
capacity to facilitate a series of conversations that elicit the
multiple points of view needed in order to make the best use of the agency's
strengths. In addition to creating new action plans, these
conversations lead to better relationships among members of the organization and with others in the wider community who influence
the organization’s mission.
Process of consultation The process
includes: a definition of desired outcomes, an examination of existing
resources and strengths, an examination of existing obstacles, training sessions
when needed, action plans for within and without the system, ongoing
evaluations that influence future action plans.
Change: Through dialogue, experiments in
action and ongoing evaluation change both evolves step- by- step and
in unpredictable transformational leaps.
